Michigan Fellows Africa Initiatives (MFAI) is seeking Africa’s emerging leaders between 18-29 years in Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe to participate in the Ecourse4 professional online training cohort 5. The Ecourse4 is a (3) three week-long professional training on four thematic areas: Leadership, Project management, civic participation and Fundraising.

In cohort 5, a total of 30fellows will competitively be selected to participate and receive a certificate of participation upon successful completion of the program. Fellows will have the unique opportunity to learn, network, and collaborate with peers, experts, academics, and practitioners in Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe and the United States, from the private sector, government, U.S. Exchange Professional Fellows Programs (PFP) and Michigan State University (MSU).

Application Criteria

• Applicants should be residents of Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe,
• Hold a diploma or degree from a reputable institution,
• Have good digital literacy skills
• Commit to spending a minimum of 7 hours per week attending the online sessions.
• No application fees are required.

Applications for the 2nd Cohort (Western Uganda)

Calls for Expression of interest (EoI) for secondary schools in Western Uganda districts of Mbarara, Ntugamo, Shema, Lyatonde and Busheyi are open until 1st May 2023. 

MFAI is seeking to partner with 10 (ten) secondary schools within the western Region to identify and select a total of 30 exceptional young leaders who are currently enrolled in school to participate in the PACE Academy. 

How to apply?

Participation in the PACE Academy project is free and highly competitive. Interested secondary schools may submit an online EOI. Only EOIs submitted by a senior staff member such as a head teacher, Director, Dean of Studies, career teacher and Chairperson Board of Directors will be reviewed.

The review process is on a rolling basis and may close before the set deadline if the target number of schools to be reviewed is realized.

The provisional deadline for submission is 1st May 2023

In the first cohort, MFAI is seeking to partner with four (4) partner secondary schools within greater Kampala Region to identify and select a total of 25 exceptional young leaders who are currently enrolled in school, old students in the most recent years and/or learners who dropped out of the applicant school because of the direct or indirect effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on education. Participating young leaders must not be admitted or enrolled at any Higher Education Institution (HEI).

Michigan Fellows Agribusiness Initiative (MFAI) Uganda is seeking emerging community leaders in Uganda to participate in the 3rd and 4th Cohort of the Ecourse4 professional online training. The Ecourse4 is free and adopts a highly competitive application process. Fellows will be trained in 4 major thematic areas that are: leadership, project management, civic participation, and fundraising across 4 cohorts.

Each cohort will last 1 month and upon successful completion, fellows will receive a certificates of acquired skills courtesy of MFAI and its partner institutions. Fellows are required to spend a minimum of 40 hours on the Michigan State University (MSU) Alliance for African Partnerships (AAP) Bridge to study and connect with peers, tutors and mentors who are alumni of U.S Department of State (DoS) exchange programs in Uganda.

Application Deadlines

• Close on: Tuesday, 6 th September 2022 Time 11.59pm EAT

• Must be a resident of: Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja, Iganga, Mbarara, and Ntungamo
•  18-28 years old
•  A minimum academic qualifications of A level certificate. Students may apply and will be considered on a case by case basis.
• Must have good digital literacy skills.

  Interested applicants that meet the set eligibility criteria should fill out the online application and submit before the set deadline. Shortlisted applicants are required to attend a virtual interview. Women and Persons with Disabilities are engaged to apply.

Project | Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) in Leadership and Training.

Michigan State University (MSU) African Studies Center, Makerere University (Mak) and Michigan Fellows Agribusiness Initiative (MFAI) with funding from the MSU Alliance for African Partnerships under the Transforming Institutions Strategic Funding are implementing a diversity and inclusion in leadership and training project. The project seeks to increase the representation of categories of people that have typically been marginalized from leadership and decision-making processes such as women, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), People Living with HIV/AIDs (PL-HIV/AIDs), and youth from low income earning families.

We are seeking participation of youth and student leaders between 18- 35 years to participate in the 3rd workshop series intended to deepen participants’ knowledge and sensitivities to diversity and inclusion in leadership and training. Participation is highly competitive, merit-based and adopts a blind review process. Selected participants will be required to attend a residential workshop that involves dialogue, discussions, expert presentations, and group work. All workshop-related expenses are fully paid for in the project. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Interested youth must be;

1. Ugandans between 18-35 years of age
2. Working with or are a funder of a fully registered Not for Profit organization,
3. Have a minimum academic qualification of a Diploma. Bachelors and Master degree holders from reputable Higher Education Institutions are encouraged to apply.
4. Engaged in work that serves marginalized groups such as women, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), People Living with HIV/AIDs (PL-HIV/AIDs), and youth from low income earning families.

Interested students from Makerere University must;

1. Hold a leadership position at the university
2. Show how they intend to attend the program while continuing with their studies.
3. Provide a support letter from a senior administrator/staff/lecturer at the University.

E-COURSE4 OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

We are currently accepting applications for the 1st cohort of the Ecourse4 projects, funded by the U.S. Mission to Uganda.  The 1 month online Ecourse4 is a leadership training program to build skills in 4 major thematic areas: leadership, project management, civic participation, and fundraising.

Applicants must be between 18-28 years old, residents of Kampala, Wakiso, Gulu and Dokolo districts. The Ecourse4 is administered along with our partners at Michigan State University (MSU) Alliance for African Partnerships (AAP), Makerere University (MaK), and experts from the private sector and Civil Society in Uganda. Each cohort lasts 1 month and upon successful completion, fellows will receive a certificate of acquired skills courtesy of MFAI and its partner institutions. Fellows are required to spend a minimum of 40 hours on the AAP Bridge to study and connect with peers, tutors and mentors who are alumni of U.S Department of State (DoS) exchange programs in Uganda. 

The 1st cohort will run from the 21^st March 2022 date to the 14^th April 2022 date.  We will have subsequent cohorts in June, August and October, with applications announced at a later date.
